Before 2019, Ernest’s life reflected a quiet contradiction.
He showed early academic promise, earning recognition in primary school through awards and competitions. But despite his ability, his path lacked stability. School fees were inconsistent. Materials were often unavailable. The environment around him made it difficult to sustain focus, discipline, or direction.
In his early years, Ernest did not attend kindergarten because there was no money at home. He began his education in an under-resourced government school, often walking long distances barefoot. At times, he did not have a pencil or an exercise book. He was frequently listed among those unable to pay school fees. At home and within his community, the challenges were not uncommon. Many young people dropped out of school. Some struggled with addiction. Others lacked guidance and support. Over time, Ernest began to drift. Not because he lacked ability, but because he lacked structure.

That changed in 2019 when he joined Children of Grace. Through mentorship, consistent follow-up, career guidance, and life skills training, Ernest began to establish a sense of structure. Through this environment, Ernest began to grow. Not only academically, but personally and spiritually. He developed discipline, responsibility, and a clearer sense of purpose. His faith deepened, shaping both his decisions and his outlook on the future.
As his confidence developed, he began to take initiative. He served as President of the Writers’ Club and helped establish the school’s Math Club, contributing to both academic and creative development. He also represented his school in debate competitions at regional and national levels, helping his team rank among the top schools in the country. These experiences strengthened his ability to think critically, communicate clearly, and lead with confidence.
At Advanced Level, Ernest was elected Head Boy and Head Prefect. In this role, he worked closely with both students and staff, helping to improve communication, strengthen leadership structures, and advocate for accountability and fairness within the school.
Leadership, for him, became more than a position. It became a responsibility.

As he continued to grow, Ernest began to look beyond his own journey.
He founded MELA International, an initiative focused on supporting young people who are struggling with identity, purpose, and silent challenges. His vision is to expand this into a platform that provides the kind of structured support that shaped his own life.
He also co-authored a book titled A Bigger Thinking, reflecting on growth, mindset, and purpose.
Today, Ernest is preparing for the next stage of his journey. He plans to pursue higher education in medicine, with a long-term vision of improving the systems that shape health outcomes and access to care.

His journey shows that when a young person is supported holistically, the impact extends far beyond one individual. It develops leaders. It strengthens communities. And it creates a ripple effect that continues for years to come.
Through sponsorship, Children of Grace walks alongside young people like Ernest as they grow in confidence, leadership, purpose, and opportunity. There are many more children still waiting for that same support.
